Have you recently downloaded the new version of Azureus (v188.8.131.52) and are now getting very slow downloads?
I did, and I tried everything to fix it (reinstalling, opening firewall ports, etc). It turns out there is a known issue with the latest version of Azureus – it requires the most recent version of the Java JRE (v1.5.0 or above – pick the third option in the list if you aren’t a Java Developer). Like most people, I have been running JRE (v1.4.02).
A quick upgrade to v1.5 fixed the download problem, however the new version appears to be in some kind of “update loop” – it requests a further update to be downloaded, installs it and then re-requests it again and again.
I’ve decided to roll back to the stable v184.108.40.206, which I know works well. From what I could see the only major new feature is RSS Importing as standard – which is something I already have installed via the plug-in.
(Azureus is in my opinion the best bit-torrent client around. It’s Java based, which is why it requires the JRE – the Java Runtime Environment. If you don’t know what JRE is you’re probably not a Java programmer, in which case you don’t need to download “Netbeans” or the JDK when requested! Netbeans is a Java development environment and JDK is the Java Development Kit).
Azureus is bloated and slow… and generally a bit crap (Unless you’re running on a Sun machine). Now Bit Comet, being that it’s developed in a proper language, is much more responsive.
Cheers for that. I’d read the issue page but didn’t really believe a JRE upgrade could really be the solution – looks like it is though! I’ll be downgrading this evening 🙂
I agree though, Azureus is a really impressive bittorrent client!
(btw, the font-size for this comment box is tiny! bigger please!)
Thanks for this – I was getting wholly frustrated with what used-to-be an excellent client. CPU hog-heavy, and I didn’t know why, until I read you bit.
Downgraded and it works like a charm once more!
Thanks alot. Really helped me out too, I downgraded Az. Almost kicked it out and started using other program. Furtunately not necessay because Az works fine.
Would it also be an option to upgrade jre?
thank you so much, dear god, my slow speeds were doing my nut in. rolled back to 220.127.116.11 and all is good once more 😀
How do i downgrade?
After I initially commented I clicked the -Notify me when new feedback are added- checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get 4 emails with the same comment. Is there any means you can remove me from that service? Thanks! Roman http://my.opera.com/domyimieszkania
