For me, the highlight of last night’s Live8 concert has to be Roger Waters reunited with David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason for my first ever live “complete” Pink Floyd experience.
Despite being a big fan, I’ve never seen Pink Floyd live and – until last night’s concert – I had never heard a live performance with all of the original members of the band together (apart from Syd Barratt, obviously, but I’m a lot more into Gilmour-era Pink Floyd than Barratt-era). They last played altogether in 1981 – the year of my birth.
“Wish You Were Here” was totally amazing, as was “Breathe” and “Money”. Unlike some of the ‘old rockers’ appearing at the concert, Pink Floyd proved they haven’t lost it after all this time. The guitar riffs were as striking as ever, the singing just as vivid as the studio recordings that I listen to so often. Perfect.
