Sofia and I are on an aeroplane (or ‘airplane’ as they say State-side), heading for San Francisco (I’m already using my American vocabulary, I caught myself asking the air stewardess whether she could put my empty bottle in the ‘trash can’).
Sadly we’re flying United so not only is there no WiFi but there isn’t much to be said for the onboard service. The in-flight movie is League of Extraordinary Gentleman, hmmm recent. But hey, it’s cheap
(Haven’t said that I have managed to bag an exit row seat with a nice bit of leg room, yay!)
Sofia was selected for a “random security inspection” at the boarding gate, which menat she had to be frisked, have her carry on luggage searched, and everything tested for traces of explosive. Seeing I was accompanying her on the flight, I too was indicted and had to go through the same checks too. At the time I was a little pissed off, but actually looking back on it I feel a wee bit safer knowing that those checks are in place.
We’re going to be staying downtown with Chris ‘Factoryjoe‘ Messina so drop me a line if you want to hook up. There is also an “out-of-towner” (aka Geek Dinner/Drinks??) with me on Thursday 2nd March – I’ll make a separate post about it, but basically you’re all invited.
We’ve also got a few days to kill in between ‘prior engagements’ so let us know what we should be seeing and avoiding in sunny San Francisco!
BTW, here’s my itinerary for the next couple of weeks:
- Sat 25th Feb: Arrive in San Francisco
- Sun 5th Mar: Travel to San Diego for ETech
- Fri 10th Mar: Fly home to London
- Sat 18th Mar: Fly to Las Vegas for Mix06
- Wed 22nd Mar: Fly home to London, collapse in a heap, etc…
