Whilst perusing the MediaWiki website to find best practice for running multiple instances of MediaWiki on a single box, I discovered their WikiFarm page. WikiFarm is the name they give to the specific configuration of MediaWiki for use on the main Wikipedia, WikiNews, et al websites.
