My PSP arrived!

I received my shiny new Sony PSP yesterday!

It’s quite a toy, but clearly Sony are expecting to leverage them as more than just a games machine. It’s a music and video platform as well, with headphone remote control and a stunning LCD screen. I reckon with the success of the music-orientated iPod, Sony are holding back on pushing the portable video capabilities of the PSP until the market is ready for it (I guess they’re concentrating on getting an established user base based on it’s gaming ability and then push the multimedia aspects from there).

I purchased my PSP via eBay as I decided I wanted a Japanese spec PSP rather than a UK spec when they come out in June. The original Japanese PSP’s have a Sharp LCD screen, where as the US ones have a slightly poorer quality Samsung LCD screen. The European PSPs will also have this poorer screen.

I’ll write a longer review of it shortly, but suffice to say I’m very pleased. It has the look and feel of a £300+ PDA type device, yet it cost £160.
