Just picked this up - late as always. Well observed Ben. I've followed the Seedcamp thing and can't help but wonder where the real innovation is among these folk. I agree about the enigmatic Project Playfair - certainly interested in seeing what it does. However, there are markets for regional plays with commerce related offerings. Ad supported? Hmmm - a lot less sure.

Oh yes - FOWA - defo going to that one.

BTW, the link above will return a 404. But remove the full stop (period) at the end and all will work fine.

Hi Ben,

I think that one of the things which has become obvious from participating in Seedcamp (I'm from Debatewise) is that many of us need to get better at communicating what makes our idea viable. Having spent time with quite a few different founders it's clear that lots have, as with Tablefinder, a separating difference or that they have, as with Buildersite, a solution to a particular problem.

Our business model is not just about building something great which we hope to monetise later – though we certainly hope to build something great and to make money. I trust you’ll forgive me if I don’t reveal just what that model is here, though I can assure you it doesn’t involve slapping ads in every available space or in any way abusing our community.

I also hope you’ll forgive the blatant plug for a debate about Seedcamp happening on our site. As you’d expect with a debate, there are arguments for and against, though unlike usual debates ours is a collaborative experience so anyone with a point to make can add to or strengthen what’s already been said. The direct URL is: http://tinyurl.com/2ml7xq.

Hi, Thanks for being a little positive on our idea anyways. :) Being here at seedcamp I don't agree with many of your assumptions, but it is not easy to judge all of the companies based on the oneliner that is public so far. :)

Anyways, just to clear a point. Many think that we are trying to compete with OpenTable, but that is not the case. OpenTable has built an amazing company in the US and are moving in Europe as well. Tablefinder is trying to aggregate all of the different opentables out there in order to build a great community around restaurant visits and reservations for all bookable restaurants. So we are actually more looking to partner with players like OpenTable, since the more money we will earn, the more will our reservation networks.

Regards,
