Media RSS: RSS 2.0 with enclosures++
During the development work on the BBC News AV Console in the summer, I spent ages looking for even the slightest glimmer of an extension to RSS (or another syndication format) to syndicate video-media assets.
Podcasting was but a twinkle in Mr Curry’s eye back then.
Well, a lot has changed since then, and it looks like Yahoo! have decided to take the lead when it comes to this important next step.
As I assumed, Podcasting’s enclosures have paved the way for the first real industry-strength RSS Format in this area.
I would like to have pushed the BBC 6 months ago to do something like this – but with the current status-quo of downloadable/non-streaming video asset’s being against policy, there was little point (enclosures need to point to downloadable video if they are to be of any real value, of course)
